Statement from our Executive Director

Few cities in the world let you walk from one country to another in about 15 minutes and sit down to lunch on the other side. Here, that's an ordinary day. Generations of life alongside Mexico have shaped El Paso, and visitors are often surprised by how warm and welcoming El Pasoans are. That hospitality comes straight from the border's shared culture.

The Tom Lea Celebration gives your story a way in. Our free events invite people to experience that culture firsthand through:

  • Murals that tell the story of the region

  • Live shows and presentations

  • Guided walking tours of parts of El Paso that many locals and most visitors have never seen

Together they offer a fresh angle on a city people think they already know, with vivid scenes and characters to build a story around.

- Holly Cobb, Executive Director of the Tom Lea Institute
