About the event

🖼️ Tom Lea’s WWII paintings and drawings will be presented in comparison with art’s portrayal of war and struggle throughout the centuries. From biblical themes of Hell and sacrifice, to the epic wars of the modern era, Birkner will discuss various ways painters and painting have represented human conflict. Lea's WWII imagery will be shown as part of a history that includes Uccello, Bruegel and Goya, among others, while also facing the challenges of depicting war on the massive scale of the 20th century.
